Mr Peter Upward
I joined the governing body in Jan 2006 having been a secondary school teacher for over 30 years, the last 24 as Head of English. I left teaching and then worked as telephone operator at ONS for 6 years.
I am a churchwarden which takes up much time away from the Governing Body. I am in the church choir and choose some of the music we sing.
I was involved in the process of the school’s conversion to academy status.
I was initially a Foundation Governor nominated by the Diocese of Portsmouth. However, I converted to an Appointed Governor, appointed by the Members of the Trust in September 2017 and my term ends on 31 August 2018. As I was a member of the Governing Body at the time of conversion to an Academy, I am also regarded as a First Governor.
I was Chair of Governors, having been first elected to the position in September 2013, until I stepped down on 23 May 2018 and I am a member of the Pupil Discipline, Curriculum & Early Years Committee and the Finance & Personnel Committee.
I have completed certificated Safer Recruitment Training which allows me to be part of the interviewing process for new staff when required. This I very much enjoy. I also have responsibility for the induction mentoring of new governors.
Pecuniary and other interests: Active member of the congregation of St Mary’s Hook-with-Warsash Church and Church Warden
