Mr Peter Upward - Chair of Governors
I joined the governing body in Jan 2006 having been a secondary school teacher for over 30 years, the last 24 as Head of English. I left teaching and then worked as telephone operator at ONS for 6 years.
I am a churchwarden which takes up much time away from the Governing Body. I am in the church choir and choose some of the music we sing.
I was involved in the process of the school’s conversion to academy status.
I am a Foundation Governor nominated by the Diocese of Portsmouth and my term ends on 31 December 2017. As I was a member of the Governing Body at the time of conversion to an Academy, I am also regarded as a First Governor.
I am Chair of Governors, having been first elected to the position in September 2013 and a member of the Pupil Discipline, Curriculum & Early Years Committee. the Finance & Personnel Committee, the Forging Links Committee and the Governance & Audit Committee.
I have completed certificated Safer Recruitment Training which allows me to be part of the interviewing process for new staff when required. This I very much enjoy. I also have responsibility for the induction mentoring of new governors; Looked after Children; Pupil Premium and Special Educational Needs and Disability.
Pecuniary and other interests: none.
